Cultural participation surveys in African countries – Call for information

The Maputo-based Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa NEWS No 279 26 June 2011

The Fitzcarraldo Foundation, an independent NGO based in Turin (Italy) is carrying a research for UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS, Montreal) with a view to design a “Global Handbook on Measuring Cultural Participation”.

The Handbook is meant to provide some very practical guidelines for measuring the participation in cultural activities, starting from existing surveys carried out in different countries worldwide.

If you have any information regarding surveys on cultural participation carried out in African countries (the whole continent), please contact Ms Elena Di Federico.

The Foundation would be interested in particular in:

• cultural participation surveys or other quantitative / qualitative studies which

could be consistent with the focus of our research ,

• general population surveys or time use surveys that contain specific questions about cultural participation or practices.
